Unusual beard, calls to brother: How Mumbai police traced 2 shooters accused of shooting outside Salman Khan’s house

Two men who carried out firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence on April 14 took all precautions, including disposing of their phones and changing travel modes. However, Mumbai Police personnel smoked them out from a temple in Bhuj, Gujarat, with the help of human and technical intelligence.

Sources from Mumbai police said that the first tip-off about the two accused, identified as Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, came when Pal called up his brother in Bihar using a different SIM card after disposing of the SIM card and mobile phones that they had been using after the attack. Pal called his brother, confident that the police would not have access to the new number as he had never used it.

“Using technical intelligence, we tracked down the new SIM card number that was used by Pal and found its location at Nakhatrana city in Bhuj. Later a team from the crime branch was flown there from Mumbai,” an officer said. Local police, too, reached the spot some time later.

“When our team reached, the accused were not there and their phones were switched off,” an officer said. The challenge then was to find out where they went. “There were three roads from the spot where the mobile was switched off. Three teams went on those roads, asking local dhabas and shops if they had seen the two men, showing their photographs,” the officer said.
